Cloud Forensics Workshop

International Workshop of Cloud Forensics

Cloud Forensics 2014

Workshop Goals and Scope

Cloud Forensics 2014, aptly named for its goal, is a one-day research workshop organized with the objective of bringing together researchers working on the intersection of Cloud computing and storage as well as cyber law and cyber forensics to present and discuss their latest research results and ideas, thereby promoting the development and the evolution of this combined body of knowledge. All submissions enabling cross-pollination of ideas on cloud computing, cloud storage, cyber law, digital forensics, and eDiscovery are welcome. We highly encourage novel and innovative previously unpublished work.

Please submit your manuscripts to [email protected].

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Security Hacking and Countermeasures in the Cloud
  • Cloud Risk Management and Disaster Recovery
  • Cyber Law and Terrorism in the Cloud
  • Digital Forensics Process and Model in the Cloud
  • Forensic Data Acquisition in the Cloud
  • Cloud Digital Evidence Management
  • Cloud Auditing and Compliance
  • Cloud Digital Evidence Analysis
    • Cloud Digital Evidence Presentation
    • Mobile and Wireless Cloud Forensics
    • Cloud eDiscovery

Significance of the Workshop

Cloud computing is an emerging yet revolutionary technology. It has started changing the ways people live and work. With the growing of cloud and related services, security and privacy in the Cloud have become very critical issues in cyber security. The introduction of cloud in existing computer systems and networks has changed the security perspectives and measures, consequently affecting how crime related digital evidence is retrieved and handled in this environment. We strongly believe that the proposed workshop will provide an excellent venue for researchers in cloud computing and cyber law and forensics investigators to exchange their research findings. We expect to have more than forty participants for the one-day workshop.

Prior Workshop Experience and Expected Paper Submission Volume

The proposed workshop will be its first appearance in 2014 and we plan to continue its annual appearance if it receives a warm welcome and positive feedback The workshop organizers all have abundant experience in successfully organizing international workshops and conferences with themes in closely related fields. For example, Drs. Chen and Shashidhar successfully organized the International Workshop on Pervasive Communication Security, social Networking and Social Engineering held in conjunction with the 2012 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC). The workshop attracted more than 20 paper submissions and 6 top papers were carefully selected based on peer-review feedbacks. Workshop attendance exceeded 50 participants. Drs. Chen and Shashidhar were invited to and will chair the International Workshop on Sensor, Peer-to-peer and Social Networks (SPAN) with ICNC 2014. Dr. Kari will also serve in the Technical Program Committee (TPC) for SPAN 2014.

Paper Selection Process

Every single paper submitted will be first examined for possible plagiarism with popular anti-plagiarism programs and web tools, e.g. the Viper program and the plagiarism checker provided at www.dustball.com. Any paper with confirmed evidence of plagiarism will be immediately dropped from the pool and authors will be warned. A report will also be submitted to the conference committee where necessary. The entire review process will be double-blind. Each paper with original work will be assigned to at least 3 different reviewers, carefully selected from authors from other submitted papers and the Technical Program Committee (TPC). We consider the background of the reviewers, conflict of interests, and assigned workload for allocating review assignments. Average review load is 2 to 3 papers per reviewer while not exceeding 4. Each reviewer will have 3 weeks of time to carefully review assigned papers and rate each of them using a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being highest score) on relevance to workshop and conference, originality, content, presentation, and provide a summary score, and will also be asked to provide review comments on the strengths, weaknesses, suggestions, and other aspects of the paper reviewed. The review will also need to give suggestion on one of the following decisions: strong accept, accept with revisions, weak accept, weak reject, or reject. An average score will be calculated for each paper and average scores of all papers will be ranked. We plan to select the 8 ranked papers to be included in the workshop’s list of accepted papers. In the case of tie or closely rated scores among two or more papers or other unexpected scenarios, we will send out second round (1 or 2 weeks of time) reviews and hold meeting among the workshop organizers. All authors of papers will be notified by the proposed deadline of the result and provided with review comments.

Call For Paper (CFP)

The workshop organizers cordially invite submissions of original research work to The First International Workshop of Cloud Forensics (Cloud Forensics 2014) in conjunction with the Third ASE International Conference on Cyber Security that will be held in Stanford, California, USA in May 2014. Listed below is important information of the workshop and more information of the workshop can be found here. Paper formatting and submission instructions can be found at the main CyberSecurity conference website.
