International Workshop on Exploiting Big Data in Commerce and Finance

Workshop Goals

The workshop on Exploring Big Data in Commerce and Finance invites papers for presentation at 2014 ASE International Conference on Big Data Science that contribute to promote economic growth through big data utilization. In the commerce and finance sector, integrating Big Data initiatives into everyday business operations is growing in importance. Effectively extract, integrate, and analyse Big Data, hence to derive real-time insights and merge them with operational processes (e.g. Staff Scheduling, Fraud Analysis, Risk Management) is the key to help organisations to improve overall business performance and gain competitive advantages. Big Data in commerce and finance context is not only confined to large volume but has also to deal with heterogeneity of data. It could include data from diverse sources like Linked Open Data that are dynamic and context dependent, or social media data with high velocity.

Interested Topics

The workshop welcomes contributions in Big Data extraction, integration, and processing in finance and commerce field. The target topics include:

  • Systems or services for Big Data extraction, integration of business data
  • Applied research on utilising social media data for business processes
  • Integration of real-time Big Data analytics outcome with business operations
  • Linking Open Data with private business data for enhanced business decision making
  • Big Data visualisation technology for business patterns or trends analytics
  • Linked Data technology for Big Data processes in Finance
  • Methods or systems for optimizing Big Data processing in commercial applications
  • Systems enhancing speed of processing of commercial or financial data
  • Methods or systems for distributed Big Data processing in commercial applications
  • Real-time streaming data integration for business data

Important Dates

  • Paper submission deadline: April 1, 2014.
  • Notification of acceptance: April 30, 2014.
  • Poster submission deadline: May 2, 2014.
  • Camera-ready copies: May 7, 2014.
  • Workshop Date: May 27, 2014.

The Paper Selection Process

Contributors are invited to submit full papers (max length 6 pages in the double-column ASE format) to the conference site by 15 March 2014, indicating workshop name (Exploiting Big Data in Commerce and Finance) and corresponding author. All submissions must be anonymized. The submissions will go through a double blind review process and will be evaluated using the same criteria as other ASE submissions.

Decisions regarding acceptance will be made by 30 April 2014. Papers are accepted on the assumption that the manuscript is an original work and has not been copyrighted, published or accepted for presentation at other conferences. At least one author must attend the conference, and present the paper. Accepted papers will be published by ASE Open Scientific Digital Library as conference proceedings.
